Optimizing seaweed futures under climate change

چکیده
Abstract Seaweeds play essential ecological and biogeochemical roles support important industrial applications. Sustaining natural populations of seaweeds under climate change while simultaneously putting to use in solutions requires that we weave together disparate lines inquiry—the the industrial—to create a more holistic perspective integrated research agenda. Innovation must be than aspirational—it evidence effectiveness short term, promise sustain nature people long term.

The fate of the Arctic seaweed Fucus distichus under climate change: an ecological niche modeling approach.
Rising temperatures are predicted to melt all perennial ice cover in the Arctic by the end of this century, thus opening up suitable habitat for temperate and subarctic species. Canopy-forming seaweeds provide an ideal system to predict the potential impact of climate-change on rocky-shore ecosystems, given their direct dependence on temperature and their key role in the ecological system. Our ...
متن کاملImplications of Climate Change for Bird Conservation in the Southwestern U.S. under Three Alternative Futures
Future expected changes in climate and human activity threaten many riparian habitats, particularly in the southwestern U.S. Using Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt3.3.3) modeling, we characterized habitat relationships and generated spatial predictions of habitat suitability for the Lucy's warbler (Oreothlypis luciae), the Southwestern willow flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus) and the Western yello...
متن کاملPrecipitation Extremes Under Climate Change
The response of precipitation extremes to climate change is considered using results from theory, modeling, and observations, with a focus on the physical factors that control the response. Observations and simulations with climate models show that precipitation extremes intensify in response to a warming climate. However, the sensitivity of precipitation extremes to warming remains uncertain w...
